THE ARTIST
Björn Wiedemann’s abstract painting evolves from an open interplay of gesture, surface, color, and layering. The focus is on the painting process itself: traces, overlays, breaks, and deliberate interventions remain visible and become the very foundation of the work. Color thus becomes a direct force and form of expression.
His works eschew representational motifs and unambiguous depictions. Instead, they open up pictorial spaces in which control and chance, intuition and structure interact. Some works appear minimalist and almost still, while others coalesce into expressive, multi-layered surfaces. What they have in common is the search for a language beyond explanations – something that begins where language ends.
PAINTING. LAYER BY LAYER.
A new work usually begins with a vague idea or concept. He often works directly on the canvas without making a preliminary sketch. From this, a work evolves through a process of reaction, correction, overpainting, and trust in the unpredictable. It is precisely in this interplay between decision-making and letting go that the tension in his paintings arises.

BIOGRAPHY
Björn Wiedemann, born in Magdeburg, lives and works in Burg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. His non-representational, contemporary art can be situated within the context of Abstract Expressionism. Wiedemann draws inspiration and influence from artists and their work, including Gerhard Richter, Franz Kline, Hans Hartung, and Pierre Soulages.
