Painting? A Journey.

Björn Wiedenann, Painter

About the journey of painting to one’s own limits and what art means to me

For me, art is more than just a creative pursuit. It is an expression of the self, a journey of discovery into the depths of thoughts and feelings. Painting allows me to explore the balance between light and shadow, to gain new perspectives and to translate emotions into color and form.

Abstract art: freedom without limits

I’m particularly fascinated by abstract art, or rather painting without objects. It offers almost limitless possibilities: no fixed rules, no predetermined forms. Instead, it allows me to follow my intuition and chance. Composition, choice of color and techniques can be freely designed – a freedom that I particularly appreciate. This results in pictures that sometimes not only make my inner worlds visible, but also stimulate the viewer’s imagination.

Art as a creative force and the “flow”

Painting is a tool for me to relieve inner tension or stress, to find an inner balance. Scientific studies also show that creative activities such as painting reduce the stress hormone cortisol and at the same time promote happiness hormones such as dopamine and serotonin. The creative process is therefore not only inspiring, but also healing.

Maler Björn Wiedemann im AtelierIn contrast to passive activities such as watching television, which often only bring short-term relaxation, active creation has a deeper, lasting effect. When I paint, I create something tangible with my own hands that makes me proud and establishes a connection with myself. Creativity is a form of active engagement with life – it challenges and inspires in equal measure.

There are moments when I completely immerse myself in the creative process – perhaps almost in a “flow” state. In these phases, I feel in harmony with my work. It’s just me, the paints and the canvas. It’s a journey in which time and space fade into the background and working with colors and shapes becomes an almost meditative experience. Of course, there are also days when inspiration falters. But it is precisely these challenges that make art exciting and lively. Every brushstroke becomes an experiment, every canvas a new possibility.

Light and shadow: Life in art

A central element of my painting is the interplay of light and shadow. These contrasts symbolize the duality of life – the good and the bad, the light and the dark. When painting, these contrasts are processed and brought into harmony. The creative process thus becomes a journey to myself and an attempt to understand inner conflicts.

Painting helps me to organize my thoughts, concentrate on the here and now and practice mindfulness. A self-reflection. Each canvas is a way of exploring my inner worlds – be it through memories of childhood, current emotions or visions for the future.

Abstract art offers a special freedom: it allows me to work without pressure and express feelings that are difficult to put into words. For the viewers of my works, it opens up a space for their own interpretations and stories – a journey inspired by the power of imagination.

Creativity as a lifelong journey

For me, art is a path of constant self-discovery. It is a journey with highs and lows that constantly surprises and develops me. Painting means exploring my limits and going beyond them – an ongoing experiment that opens up new perspectives with each new work.

I hope that my works also awaken this joy of discovery in other people. May they inspire viewers to explore their own inner worlds, stimulate their imagination and find stories that mean something to them.
