🧱 Why a new studio?

The initial situation and why I want to take this step

I have been working in my small studio in Burg for years. It measures 32 square meters, spread over two rooms. Here, colors, creativity, and silence are equally present in the air. Works such as Voyage and Emerald Blaze were created here. But increasingly, the space is becoming cramped: there is not enough room for larger formats, for parallel pictures, for storing, documenting, and preparing my work. And receiving visitors is also rather difficult, as I have no space for seating, for example.

Art has grown – space has not.

🌱 Vision & Opportunities

What needs to change – and why now

After a long search, I found premises in Burg that feel just right: three bright rooms, high ceilings. Light and space.

Even during my first visit, I could feel how creativity could breathe new life here. Here, painting can be big again. I could store my materials here, work on larger canvases, create works of art, and even welcome visitors. A place for art, culture, and exchange.

These rooms have everything I’ve been looking for for so long. The only problem is that I’m still contractually bound to my old studio until September 2026. The double expense exceeds what my budget can currently handle. I can’t finance the double rent from art sales alone. And wait until September next year? That would be too big a risk that these perfectly suited premises will no longer be available.

That’s why I’ve decided to try using modern methods: with a crowdfunding campaign. This could be a joint step towards a new workspace. This step is not a luxury idea, but a necessary development of my artistic work. More space means more freedom, more depth, more visibility.

💡 What your support achieves

Every euro helps to bridge this phase between studios and to renovate and set up the new studio.

Support means specifically:

  • Bridging the double rent (old + new premises)
  • Setting up the new studio (shelves, workspace, lighting)
  • Retreat options for larger creative processes
  • Space for visitors, work meetings, and setting up a permanent space for presenting my art

🧭 My goal

and what I want to make possible with it

My goal is clear: I want to design my working environment in such a way that art is not only created, but can also flourish. A studio that serves as a production space, a thinking space, and a meeting place all at once. This vision is aimed at you – at everyone who wants to accompany current and future works. Friends of art, collectors, supporters, and everyone who, like me, believes that creativity needs space.

„Björn Wiedemann im aktuellen Atelier, mit Pinsel bei der Arbeit – abstrakte Malerei entsteht“I need support to make the new studio a reality. I can’t do it alone. That’s why I’ve set up a crowdfunding campaign via StartNext. Every contribution helps to make the new studio a reality and to cover the financial costs: rent during the transition phase, renovation, shelves, lighting, and storage space.

🎨 Why this is so important to me

I have been working as an artist in Burg (near Magdeburg) for many years, devoting myself to abstract painting – intuitively and always in dialogue with form and color.

For me, art is more than just expression: it is the basis of life and language. A few years ago, at a time when everything stood still for me, it literally brought me back to life. Today, art is my inner drive and anchor.

Those who support me are not only helping me to move, but also to continue and develop my artistic path.

Crowdfunding supports me in this step: the Startnext campaign can provide me with valuable assistance in fulfilling my wish to expand my studio.

What happens if the campaign fails?

The campaign on StartNext itself is flexible. This means that every amount donated will benefit the studio project. If the funding target (keyword: double rent payments until September 2026) is not fully reached, all contributions will be used specifically for the initial steps—such as preparation, storage, or pro-rata rent payments. If the planned studio cannot be realized for reasons attributable to the landlord, an equivalent alternative space will be sought in Burg.

Every contribution remains earmarked for the studio project.

November 28, 2025: Unexpected (and unfortunately unpleasant) turn of event

Unfortunately, the situation has changed unexpectedly and negatively for me. The landlord of the rooms I had planned to use as my new studio informed me yesterday morning at short notice that they will be rented out to someone else.

So I can’t rent these rooms. Fortunately, I hadn’t given notice on my current studio yet.

I had to let yesterday’s call sink in for a day. Not only because of the ruined plans, but also because I am disappointed on a personal level. Despite verbal agreements and the clear prospect of being able to take over the space, the rejection came without warning. This is a major setback. Mentally, I had already arrived at this place: with anticipation, new ideas, and a clear vision. The last few weeks have revolved almost exclusively around this studio. The anticipation was so great.

Despite the disappointment, I am sticking to my path. The search for suitable, affordable space begins again. I remain determined to find a place that gives my work more space and freedom in the long term.

The StartNext campaign and the Black-Art-Weeks remains active.
I thought long and hard about how to communicate this.

After yesterday’s initial emotional reactions, I want to remain objective and transparent today:
All past and future support will go toward a new studio as soon as a suitable space is found. The ongoing Black Art Weeks will also remain unaffected.

Thank you to everyone who is accompanying me through this phase, supporting me, and believing in my work.
Every word of encouragement means a lot to me right now.

18.11.2025: Several ways, one goal

A brief moment of openness

I have spent a long time thinking intensively about how I can cope with the double burden of the old studio and the potential new one. Unfortunately, this cannot be covered by private funds and previous art sales.

That’s why I’ve currently come up with two contemporary ways to nurture the same dream 🌱

💬 1. Crowdfunding on StartNext – for everyone who wants to support me and my journey. Collectively.
🎨 2. Black (Art) Week – with a big discount, as an exception. For anyone who has been thinking about adding an original to their home for a while.

Both paths lead to the same point: a new space for art. For exchange. For what I truly love.
And I’m grateful to everyone who accompanies me on this journey – whichever path they choose.

I will publish more information about Black Art Week and the discount weeks soon.
